Farm House in Orachha
200kms from
Gwalior
(4 Rooms in Total)
The rooms have been recently built in the courtyards of the host families. They have tiled roofs, are equipped with fans and are tastefully furnished with traditional beds, cane chairs and tables. Some have good views of the monuments in the distance. The bathrooms and toilets are ecological and are shared with the family. Most do not have running water but the families make sure there is enough water stored for you and they provide buckets of hot water in winter. The rooms, bathrooms and toilets are cleaned every day and the linen is spotless. You can gather around the fire in the evenings to taste hot chappatis and fresh dal and vegetables while chatting with the family. The children will immediately make you feel at home.
You can watch basketweavers and potters at work. We organise outings in the nearby villages, cycle rides in the Nature Reserve and picnics with swims in the Betwa river. Our guide will be happy to show you around the main temple and explain all about Hindu gods and goddesses to you.
Our emphasis is on creating livelihoods for the host families and encouraging cultural exchange. We conduct community conversations with interpretation from English, Dutch or French to Hindi and vice versa and encourage guests to be a 'window on the world' for people who have little opportunity to travel. So please bring along some photos of your village, town or city to share with our people.
